28th July- the months have flown by…
So, it’s been about six months since the last update! but wait, we’re not dead! Tallant is in Mongolia, yes, but he’ll be back before the year is out. Things which have happened since the last update:
- We played a couple of acoustic shows at the Holywell Music Room
- We played at Modern Art Oxford
- We played the Brainlove Festival at the Brixton Windmill
- We played at Wychwood Festival for BBC Introducing with our friends UTE.
- We recorded at 24 piece choir for our EP
So it hasn’t been that quiet really. Yeah, things should have been a bit quicker but it really is hard to put an EP together that eight people are happy with. Anyway, we should have copies of it by the end of September and the EP will be released into the shops in January. The EXTRA good news is that we’re back in the studio on the weekend of August the 7th to lay down the beginnings of our 2nd EP. Woop. More news coming soon!
19th January- pre/post Snow
Again, as I so often say when I write on this blog, it’s been a while. We all had wonderful Christmases and New Years. We spent New Year in Wales, Scotland, England and Mongolia. It wouldn’t be a We Aeronauts New Year without us scattered all over the place.
We played a show on the 11th December for Daisy Rogers in Oxford, which was wonderful- lovely to see so many friendly faces. We then played the Brainlove Xmas party and had the whole George Tavern up and dancing, before we joined the dancing for Napoleon IIIrd’s set. After Xmas our first (and only so far) show was at the Social on Oxford Street for Huw Stephen’s BBC introducing show- which also went swimmingly.
Recording-wise, we’ve *nearly* finished. Over the Xmas period we worked on Boatswain’s Cry, Alpe d’Huez and a distracting (yet oh so fun) cover of Radiohead’s ‘Fake Plastic Trees’ which we recorded for BBC Oxford’s 5-year anniversary celebrations, and The Bends’ 15 year anniversary. That will be released (along with the rest of the album, featuring contributions from Ute, Stornoway and Alphabet Backwards) on iTunes on the 6th March.
We’ve got some tricks up our sleeve for the rest of the record- and it should be wrapped up by the end of February.
Show-wise, we play at the Wheatsheaf with Alphabet Backwards on Friday 29th January, and sadly we’ve had to cancel our other show with them in Milton Keynes on the 5th February because Jeremy’s other band (Ace Bushy Striptease) are supporting Johnny Foreigner on the same night- but we’ll all be there to support him. Ace!
We’re also playing two acoustic shows in a month at the Holywell Music Room in Oxford- the oldest purpose built music hall in Europe. One of us will be able to be hammering away on a Steinway Grand, and both shows will be different. See the shows section for details.
That about wraps it up for now. Stay tuned for more soon. Honest.
2nd December- The Stables
So, two months down the line from the last update and on the face of it not a lot has happened. Four shows in all, a brilliant homecoming to the Cellar for the awesome Sunday Roast folks alongside two shows at the George and one at Proud apart, we’ve been pretty quiet.
Or have we? Well, yes. Anna and Ads have scampered off to Uni, like the young rapscallions that they are, and the rest of us are holed up in the recording studio whenever we can be. The rest of the time we’re eating too many Domino’s Pizzas to care about the world or getting worked up about the state of the kitchen.
So, we’ve nearly done our much delayed EP- if all goes to plan (and it probably won’t) the final session should be done in January at some point. There are seven recordings in contention for what will probably be a 5-track affair, and three of those are finished, two are very nearly finished, one needs a bit of work and the final one can be better. I think that’s about it in a nutshell.
Once we’ve finished that, we’re going to be booking a lot of shows. Chances are we’ll be all over the place. So keep an eye out. I’m going to rub savlon into my astroturf burns now, whilst watching “shine” starring Geoffrey Rush. What a combo.
We’ve also got an exciting show coming up at the Jericho on Friday 11th- with THE GULLIVERS! It’s going to be a good one, and will probably turn into a bit of a h0e-down.
3rd October. Saturday Rain
Once again, it’s been a while since we last updated. We nearly missed our Okkervil Support, but luckily in the end all eight aeronauts were present, even if Tallant did hilariously turn up halfway through the second song.
Our big 26th September headline show was redeployed to the Duke’s Cut (not an ideal venue for an eight piece, but we did our best) after the Jericho was double booked. Me and Anna both missed the show at the Camden Head (I had a chest infection, and Anna was in Nottingham)- I am informed the others soldiered on more than capably.
We also did a couple of radio sessions- one for Wired Radio at Goldsmiths, and one for BBC Oxford. You can see the video of the BBC one here. We should be able to hear the Wired Radio one soon.
Ta-ra for now.

5th September. News.
Well, it’s been a while since the last update. There’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then. We’ve played 5 shows since then- couple of good ones, couple of bad ones. Most notably, though, we played Green Man! Massive fun. It was a HUGE stage and a HUGE crowd. We loved every second. What a festival!
Below you can see some footage of us playing ‘Out of the Don Valley’ and a little snippet of a new one called ‘Through the Door’.
We Aeronauts- Don Valley and Through the Door
Next week on Friday, we’ll be supporting Okkervil River at the Zodiac, so come and see us!
10th August. Back to Work.
So we’ve all returned to the UK from France, and today it’s back to the grindstone. We had an amazing time, relaxing around the lake, climbing mountains, looking down sheer 70ft drops and to top it all off we also wrote a handful of new tunes (one of which you can see over there on the right——>).
We’ll hopefully be playing some of these at the Luminaire on Friday. This weekend is action packed- three shows in two nights and an epic practice on Sunday in preparation for the Green Man festival, which happens on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of this month.
On top of all that, I’m writing this on a shiny new website, hand crafted for us by Simon Lawson of Ace Bushy Striptease, so a big thanks to him for furnishing us with such a nice home.
I’ll leave you with this wonderful picture from France of Ads sailing through the air.

fancy new website
It totally works now! Are you pleased to be here?
